CPTG Info and Resources

Welcome to the Las Vegas Tour Guide Guild’s Certified Professional Las Vegas Tour Guide (CPTG) Training Program!

Congratulations for undertaking this path of study – we’re proud to be on the road with you!

LVTGG Certification

Passing the training program is a key component in attaining the status of Certified Professional Las Vegas Tour Guide. Upon successful completion of the program, members with verified tour guide work experience will receive their LVTGG CPTG Certification, and members without verified tour guide experience will have their member listing updated to reflect completion of the training (in addition to learning a wealth of Las Vegas tour guide information!) More details can be found here: CPTG.

CPTG Info and Resources

This page contains resources (links to documents and websites) to accompany the CPTG training. You can choose to utilize these resources in digital form or to print and create a notebook. It is your choice whether to print any of this information. The resources are not exhaustive and you are encouraged to seek out, utilize, and share additional resources. Utilize the “takeaways,” class member discussions (on and offline), and your existing knowledge and interests to focus your studies.

Overview

The class is graded, and a passing grade of 70% or higher determines successful completion. Your final test score equals 80% of your final grade, your homework is worth 10%, and your sample live tour is worth 10%. While 10% or 20% may not seem like much, it basically determines how many questions you can miss on the test and still pass, so do the homework! The sample live tour is a requirement to pass . Test questions are based primarily on the topics presented. Based on our experience, class members who engage and study will pass.

In order to allow the greatest schedule flexibility for class members, the class has just 2 mandatory in-person meetings – the sample live tour (which is scheduled for a group based on demand) and the final exam (also scheduled based on demand). All other study can be arranged around individual schedules.

Each class member will be required to complete a number of assignments/site visits as part of the class, see information below.

Communication

Class members and LVTGG Training Team Members will communicate primarily through a closed Facebook group, Facebook Group for CPTG 19-20, but we will also use email, text, and phone calls as needed. Class members are strongly encouraged to connect with their fellow classmates to explore, learn, and study together. You can “meet” and engage with your fellow class members on the group Facebook page. LVTGG Training Team contact information is below.

Class Assignments and Tour Presentation

In addition to studying the topics and passing the final exam, each student must complete two assignments and a required live tour presentation.

While passing the final exam is primarily how you pass the class and become eligible for certification, the homework assignments and tour presentation each represent 10% of your final exam total score (for a total of 20%).

Purchase or borrow books that interest you, but we also recommend that you compile a binder or binders of reference material with information for a range of topics and destinations. Many guides create individual binders for various destinations. Continue your education and continue to grow your binder(s) beyond this CPTG training by adding new and updated information, visiting new destinations and venues, and by monitoring future CPTG training programs offered by the LVTGG.
