National Travel and Tourism Week – May 7-13, 2017

Las Vegas Celebrates National Travel & Tourism Week May 7-13, 2017

Each year during the first or second week in May, the tourism industry nationwide celebrates National Travel and Tourism Week, a program developed by the U.S. Travel Association. This nationwide week of events serves to champion the power of our industry, and is America’s annual salute to travel and tourism. This year’s theme shines a spotlight on the power of travel by recognizing the millions of people who keep this industry strong: Faces of Travel, which is fitting as the LVCVA is celebrating the 10th Anniversary of its “Hospitality Hero” program.

Below highlights the activations Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority is planning for this year’s celebration taking place May 7-13, 2017.

Travel Rally Day (Tuesday, May 9th / 2pm-3pm / Fashion Show Great Hall)

Industry partners and community businesses are asked to show support for Tourism and Travel on Tuesday, May 9 at the Fashion Show Great Hall. The LVCVA will be hosting its annual Travel Rally Day by celebrating the visitors who make Las Vegas the world’s best destination for leisure and business travel. The visitor appreciation event, led by Host Committee Chairman Oscar Goodman and iconic showgirls, will feature performances from Las Vegas entertainment, the Australian Bee Gees, BAZ – Star Crossed Love and Vox Vegas. The LVCVA plans to surprise visitors and local community at the event with not only free entertainment, but free show tickets, attraction admissions, restaurant food and beverage offers and retailer promotional items.

Going Red (Tuesday, May 9th)

Per the U.S. Travel Association, the color red represents unity in our industry among travel and tourism workers and supporters coast-to-coast. Southern Nevada is encouraged to show support for the tourism industry by wearing red during Travel Rally Day on Tuesday, May 9. Additionally, businesses and landmarks throughout the community are encouraged to turn signs, lights and decorations red to mark the occasion.

Blood Drive Challenge for Tourism Kick-off (Friday, May 12th)

The LVCVA Host Committee will partner with United Blood Services and kick off the 2nd annual “Blood Drive Challenge for Tourism” during NTTW17 with messaging “Tourism is the lifeblood of Southern Nevada’s economy.” This initiative invites Host Committee Ambassadors and industry partners to show the strength of Las Vegas’ tourism industry, and how the many dedicated people who work to make our city a great place to visit also make it a great place to live. Last year this challenge collected 173 units of life saving blood donations for 519 local patients and we hope to beat this record with your help.

Hospitality Hero Program 10th Anniversary

The LVCVA is excited to celebrate the 10 anniversary of its Hospitality Heroes program. Launched in 2008 to recognize the frontline employees in the tourism industry, over the past 10 years, the program has recognized 429 people employed in the travel and tourism industry in Southern Nevada. Throughout the month of May, the LVCVA’s Host Committee will continue this tradition and recognize 46 frontline employees at hotels and attractions by surprising them on the job with a Hospitality Hero awards. Congratulations to all the Hospitality Heroes that make Las Vegas a better place to visit and live!
